We collect and restore gently used toys to spread happiness and inspire generosity across our community.
We’re a volunteer-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving toys a second life and bringing joy to families in need. We collect gently used toys, books and games, clean and restore them, and offer them for free to the community. Powered by donations and fundraisers, every dollar goes right back into the shop.
We want any and all kids to experience the freedom of play. We want to support people in need and plant seeds of generosity in young minds. We hope to bring fun and connection back into the community, and inspire everyone to love, play, repeat!
Joy Cycle gives toys a second life and brings joy to families in need. We collect and restore gently used toys, offering them for free through a volunteer-run, donation-funded shop.
We imagine a future where every child has the chance to play, every family feels supported, and communities grow stronger through kindness, sharing, and care.
Every child deserves the chance to play, learn, and have fun — no matter their situation.
We believe small acts of giving can create big ripples of good in the world.
We grow stronger when we care for each other and build community through shared joy.
We give toys — and people — a second chance by reusing, restoring, and rediscovering their value.
Our family loves to go thrift shopping. At one of these many outings, Barrett saw a little girl with her mom and overheard the girl ask for a particular toy. Mom had to tell her that because they were buying some clothes, they couldn’t also afford to buy the toy. We want all kids to have the opportunity to play, have fun and be creative. But we know tough financial times have only gotten tougher. And thus, Joy Cycle was born.
We pictured a bright and lovely little shop where families donate fun right back into our community instead of giving things to a chain store. We envisioned children learning about sustainability and giving back at a place where people could browse for gifts without worrying about the cost. How lovely to imagine people gathering, chatting, sharing a coffee and an idea; where the cycle of love and play is repeated, multiplied and shared across generations.
The state of our current world is fast-paced, high-tech, and disconnected. Our hope is to slow things down and simplify. Free, creative and hands-on play is crucial to children’s psychoemotional and social development. But recreation comes at a cost. We want any and all kids to experience the freedom of play. We want to support people in need and plant seeds of generosity in young minds in the hopes that one day, all those involved will pay it forward if they have the chance.
We love Kitchener-Waterloo.
We want to bring fun and connection back into the community, and inspire everyone to love, play, repeat.
We are Joy Cycle.
But we can ALL be Joy Cycle.
